Baptisms

Jump in the water.

It’s not about checking a box or putting on a show — getting baptized is a personal decision that you make to take the next steps in your walk with Jesus. Here’s a closer look at what getting baptized is all about.

What does it mean to get baptized?

Baptism (you may also hear it referred to as immersion baptism or believer's baptism) is a public declaration of faith. It’s an outward sign of an internal decision. Baptism has nothing to do with salvation — faith and belief in Jesus Christ is the only way to eternal life. But baptism is one of the many ways you can tell the world that you’ve decided to leave your old life behind and follow Jesus.

When you get baptized, a church leader prays over you and immerses you in water. Once you emerge, you’ll have been symbolically cleansed of your old life and sin and set on a new path. You’ll be surrounded and supported by loved ones and those in your church family.

What does the bible say about baptism?

The Bible has a lot to say about baptism (even Jesus Himself was baptized by his cousin, John the Baptist). Check out a few passages from Scripture that can help you further understand the importance of baptism.

  • 1 Peter 3: 21

  • Acts 2: 38

  • Acts 22: 16

  • Matthew 28: 19-20
